Sound Not Working

The sound has stopped working on my comp, it tells me i have no active mixer devices available, and i have tried unistalling and reinstalling C-Media AC97 Audio Device, and searching for updates but it is still not working. Please help.
 
Have you gone through the settings in Control Panel / Sound and Audio Devices for anything unusual? You could also check in Device Manager for any warnings in the audio components. Also, look in the BIOS to see if the onboard audio has somehow been turned off.

Can you remember doing anything in particular before this happened? If you've reinstalled (off the motherboard cd?) it really should be working.
