Sound not working/Sound card trouble?

So my sound stopped working 2 days ago. I didn't think much of it so i just turned off the laptop and let it sit for a few days. I checked it today and the sound was still not working. So then i tried restoring it thinking that it was just vista being weird but still no sound! the volume is all the way up and the sound won't come through headphones or the speakers. can anyone lend a hand?

probably driver issues you should try updating em

i have a similar problem does ur computer show sound levels from the chip cos mine does but theres no output
