I have an MSI K8N Neo 4 system that i just built and my Realtek AC97 onboard audio isnt outputting any sound.

THings i have tried:
Different speakers and headphones
Reinstalling drivers
Checking BIOS
Windows Settings
MSI's Sound Utility Thingy

It still doesnt seem to work. Any help would be appreciated, are there any last things i could try before i blow money on a PCI sound card? Any weird comflicts with this board or anything?

Other system specs just in case:
3800+, X600 Pro, Antec 480 PSU... i think that's all that matters...

Please leave the bios out of this for now.Go to control panel/Sound

Does it allow you to put the icon on the tasbar and do sound tests ?
This is the best proof of drivers installed

If so check the volumes.
What does directx report ?
Has this ever worked ?
One more test,Can you hear a cd useing the cd drive headphone jack ?

pci soundcards are actually very cheap right now, I got my maddog 5.1 predator for free...after 20 dollar mail in rebate, ofcourse it isn't that good of a card but it gets the job done.

Things to ChecK:
--Did you mute the computer?
--use windows media player and play a song and see if the visualizations are working..if not it shows that your computer isn't playing anything at all.

Are you trying to play a sound from your hardrive, or through a connected drive like your dvd player? If your not getting any sound from playing audio n your h/d:
1. Make sure the audio devices are turned up
2. In 'sound' under control panel, make sure your audio device is selected, the AC97
3. With the software you are using, windows media player, or whatever it may be, go to the otpions, and make sure the correct sound device is selected.
4. Make sure your speakers are plugged into the correct port, maybe try other ports if your still having problems (for instane, headphones)
