I reformated my CPU because it was screwin up and my sound does not work
I am runnin on Windows 2000/XP
I dunno I have tried everything and Dell wanted to charge me for a troubleshoot so I was like screw that PLEASE HELP ME!

Onboard or PCI slot device? For onboard you would have to go to Dell's support site for updated drivers for board and sound to try one there. For a card that was added after purchase you would need to go to the card manufacturer's own support site for the updates they have. In either type you can usually upgrade the audio drivers easily by a going into the Device Manager and right clicking on the appropiate listing under the sound and gaming devices catagory. You then choose the update driver option to browse to the folder where the driver package(usuall a zip file) was opened unless the update has an installer. (You didn't reformat your cpu however. You reformatted your hard drive or hard disk depending on how you want to refer to that.)

ATI not PCI......Come to figure out Dell has many issues with there Windows XP Sound/Audio drivers after reformats, They try to charge me while on the phone for no reason but could you like gimme a list of instructions or a link or something sorry I am not exactly computer literate so I must appologize, but I need to get my sound up and soon.....! I would apprieciate it very much if you could give me some steps or a link thank you very much.

Never put in a sound card either I still have the integrated one that come with the Computer straight out of Dells box lol

yea i agree, everytime you reformat you need... #1 and most importantly motherboard drivers. #2 graphics + sound drivers. if you have integrated sound/graphics im sure the drivers are on the same disc as the motherboard drivers.
drivers are given out on the manufacturers websites, but be careful because drivers for the wrong device could screw things up and require another reformat.

O ya I have a video card but I reinstalled all those drivers and it works fine BUT when I tried to find a sound driver there were none that they sent me so I had nothing I could do......I installed the motherboard and stuff and all that crap and all I dont have are the sound drivers! The Dimension 2400 Windows/XP Home Edition really aint that great

Well that's why finding the main support site and selecting the correct model number can make things easier. Save the link for future reference in case you need it again. Most good support sites will have the same type of page where you choose the type of device first(board) then the model(yours 2400) and the last being the type of driver update(onboard sound). All you needed was the correct set for your model board and as you say poof!
