i don't know what's wrong with my computer or whether i accidently uninstalled a program needed for sound but my computer sound doesn't work. My speakers work fine but not when they are plugged into my computer and it doesn't detect anything. It just says "no audio device" and everything is greyed out. Everytime i plug my speakers in, soundMAX detects a new device but when i click ok, nothing happens. I can't play my music and i just can't live without going on the computer in silence. PLZ HELP!! :(
 :(

You need to reinstall the drivers there. Those can be downloaded from the soundMAX support site at http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMAX/soundMAXtechSupport.html for the latest there if you don't have the cd for the board.

With the cd in the drive or the updated drivers unpacked into a folder unless it comes with an installer you right click on the MyComputer icon and choose properties. From there click on the hardware tab and then the device manager button. Once that screen opens up scroll down to the "sound and game controllers" section and click on the "+" sign to look for any items with a yellow mark next to them. If nothing is found there look for "other devices".

On any item right click on the item and choose the update driver option to either browse the board's cd for the audio drivers folder or go to the updated ones just downloaded. Once you highlight the one seen and click ok Windows will copy and install them from that location. Try this method and post you results.

"other devices" i cant find any. I wasn't quite sure what to download from that site becuase it led to many options and i got a bit confused. SOrry but can u please be a bit more specific? im not very good with computers so ill need a lot of help. SORRY :(

You are going to post a little system information to be more helpfull. The make and model of the mother board or system if prebuilt like HP or Dell would be needed here. The lack of "other devices" in the device manager shows that all you need to do there is install the correct drivers for sound. Do you have a cd like a software disk for the system or driver cd that came with the main board?

The make is ASUS (if thats wot u mean) and the model numba is P4P800 Deluxe and found a support disk for the motherboard if that's rite.

If you have an ASUS mobo, you should have a yellow support cd. (i have an asus board). If you reinstall the sound drivers directly from the disk, this should work.

Post again if you have probs

Did you download the wrong set of drivers? You may have downloaded either the set for Linux or Windows NT. You want to make you get the Win98SE/WinME/Win2K/WinXP set. Don't worry you delete them if you grabbed the wrong ones. :P That can happen easy enough. Just go back after the correct ones. When you get there go into the "drivers" or "all" section not the ones at the top but the second ones listed under WHQL. Look for the "OS" listed.

i think i chose the right set but they didn't work either.
and my ASUS support cd is blue not yellow.
anyway i forgot to mention this before, but previously when i uninstalled soundmax audio driver thing and reinstalled it, i was instructed to reboot the computer and after rebooting, the computer said i don't have an ADI codec driver installed. Where can i get one?

A codec is a secondary driver that works along with the main driver set to add enhancements to the sound. One example of that is Creative's EAX that adds effects to music and seen in games as well. The board's cd would have the original version of that along with the rest of the needed drivers. The main site for SoundMAX is found at http://www.soundmax.com/products/faqs/SMAXfaq21ch4.html The download page there seen at http://forms.analog.com/Form_Pages/soundMAX/soundMAXtechSupport.html will simply bring you back to Asus.
