Well I just upgraded to winXP this week. and Ive been having trouble with the sound. My driver is signed and I ran DirectX Diagnostic Tool and it said that I had "Failure at step 19 User Varification of Software" Anyone have any ideas???????

I am also getting a high pitched tone out of my speakers. their not blown because i hooked them up to my portable CD player and they worked fine.
Thanks

I would think you have a PCI sound card. If you do switch it to a differetn PCI slot and see if it works.

About the high-pitched noise. Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray and start muting things. I had one coming out due to the case speaker volume being up, your results may vary.

I have onboard sound on my gigabite motherboard. I upgraded and replaced the driver, still nothing. The only time it goes away is when I hit the master mute button. I tryed turning them all off 1 by 1 but it just goes off with the master mute button.
