Sound Droppin out

Whenever I play battlefield, or cs:s, something in that realm my sound completely cuts out on me from time to time. In cs:s i can change the speaker settings back and forth from 2 speakers to headphones, and the sound will come back in for about a minute, then drop back out. Ive re-installed my drivers, and that did not work. Also If my sound is dead in a game, i can exit it, and then go to my windows media player, and play a song and the sound is back on. Does anyone have any idea whats goin on?

specs:
asus p4p800e
x800xt
1gig
500 watt psu
3.4 p4
no sound card, sound built into the motherboard.
 
wow thats weird, so it only screws up in the game, well i copuldn tsee it being the sound card itself. (audio is generally not a problem for gaming), is it possible your drivers are out of date?
