Sound distorts when computer doing something

I have a very weird situation with my sound.

When I listen to music (using itunes) my sound becomes a bit distorted when my cpu utilization goes up. For example, when someone talks to me on AIM, and the little bar flashes, I would hear distortion in my sound.

It's REALLY starting to bother me and I have absolutely no idea why it does this.

I feel your pain.................I have been fighting with this exact issue for MONTHS now................and I highly doubt it is drivers.........well in my case it is not, I think I need more ram, but not sure.

Here read over this and tell me if it the same or similar to your issues

It's pretty similar, though mine isn't as severe as yours. I have some very minor slowdowns, but mostly just little clicks/pops or just weird distortion. As for drivers, mine is up to date.

Mine started similar to pops, and slow downs and it progressively became worse. I'm not sure what the deal is but i have tried EVERYTHING under the sun. The only 2 things I have not tried yet is changing the ram................because I dont use the PC for anything except for surfing and music. The other thing I have not tried which I was told to, is changing the OS to Linux and see what that does.

HMMMM what have you done to trouble shoot it?

Well the distortion suddenly increased today, so much that if i drag boxes around my music would play in slowmo. So I decided to reinstall the driver and now all my problems are cleared up :D. That was almost too easy...

As it only distorts during the high CPU utilization , it seems to be problem with the RAM. I don't think driver problem can cause a problem like this as drivers can cause the audio to be so bad. It worked for you but it does not seems to be convincing. Anyone having any idea , then please reply. Thanks in advance.
