Sound device installed but still no sound

I installed a Creative Labs pci sound card in a computer with WinXP Home Ed.
Device manager shows the device is working properly but still no sound.
Sounds and Audio Devices state that I have no audio device but again as stated above device manager shows no errors with hardware.
I also tried installing a generic sound card with exactly the same results.
Please help.

Thanks, Vinny

Do you have onboard sound? If so, you need to go into properties and pick the card you want to use.

Hi Friend,
If the sound card is being detected by the system in the Device Manager and you are still not receiving sound and you continue to get the error messages mentioned above, then I would suggest you perform the following steps:
Remove the sound card from the Device Manger and restart the system.
The system will automatically detect the card and then you will have to reinstall the drivers for the sound card once again.

Thanks,
James

Make sure volumes turned up and that you havent got your sound muted. Make sure all wires and cords are plugged in correctly.
