Sound card

dont think that there is a SPU, but you can call it that if you want. I dont think anyone would think of a sound card when you say SPU. And integrated sound cards dont have a "SPU".

I dont think sound cards even need a processing unit becasue it doent do much work in the first place well doesnt do much work as in comparision to a video card imagine if video cards didnt have a gpu and the load was all on the cpu how slow our comps would run.

Thats like Running windows 1.0 and a AMD X2 4800+ 4GIGS of DDR400 ram and all of that stuff.

and not using much else besides windows 1.0, not games no nothing, and to us now, thats barly anything, so thats like saying that CPU isn't a CPU beucase it barly has anything to proccess.

But does the sound card one put's in a PCI slot (non integrated to mobo) have a processor on it?

yes, it doesnt look like a CPU but its a square microchip (usually about 1" x 1").

And commenting on Dont Hack!!!, a sound card with no processor would sound like integrated sound... vs something like the Audigy4 or X-Fi.

Some souncards have an SPU, or actual processors, like the X-Fi has a 400mhz SPU on it and the Audigy 2 is running at 200mhz.

The X-FI is a really amazing sound card.

yes i agree.
A 400mhz processor?! tell that to someone living 10 years ago running 200mhz processors they wont believe a word that comes out of your mouth.
