Sound card

Okay, I'm finally caving and asking about aftermarket sound cards

I currently am running on-board VIA 1818s

It will run in 24 bit 192khz, BUT doing so I have no access to my EQ settings.

I found an Asus D1 for about $50 would this be sufficient enough to improve sound quality, also if running 192khz and 24 bit would I be able to run my EQ.

What other goodies would come with having an aftermarket?

If you want to recommend a different card please keep it under 80$

I have that card and is sounds wonderful, and it's a great deal for $50. And as far as I can tell the EQ works when running 192khz/24 bit. Music sounds MUCH better on the D1 compared to HD onboard. Bass comes out much fuller and everything sounds more crisp.

I also have that card,Its awesome!

Id stay away from any creative cards,Their drivers are horrible.

Yeah even my lowly $50 x-fi xtreme audio (which is a rebadged audigy 2 or something) is miles ahead on onboard audio. Those who say onboard audio is decent have no idea :D

I had that card Linkin,But the Pci version....not a bad card at all for the price,Way way better than any integrated yes!

But because of creatives drivers i had to ditch it...but im glad now that i did.

Well which one? the DS and DX are both diffrent.

Ds is basically the same card as the D1 from what i can find out,Its just that the DS has lower quality components = lower price.

For example, the D1 has Solid Caps on the Pcb + Metal Input/Output ports on the back of the card,The DS does not.

Where as the DX is a Pci-e version of the D1 :)

I don't think it will make all that much difference though to be honest,The only reason i wanted the D1 is because i do like my stuff with Solid caps that tend to be more reliable....the choice is totally yours :)
