I have some cambridge sound works 2.1 speakers and want to get a high end sound card for gaming. Are most of the good creative sound cards only compatible with 5.1 and above? If not, is there any point is getting a good sound card with 2.1 speakers or will I see no difference. Right now I'm just running through an integrated sound card on an nForce4.

Any sound card that is compatible with 5.1 or 7.1 is also compatible with 2.1. If there high end speakers, you would probably hear a few more things in your music, movies, and games. But onboard is pretty decent.

If you use the X-Fi or Audigy 2ZS series cards, then yes. The X-Fi msot deffinetly since it has a 24Bit crystalizer and CMSS-3D, which simulates surround sound on headphones.

If you are goign to spend that much on a bettre sound card i would highely suggest better speakers, 80% of the time your speakers bottleneck more then your soundcard does.

[Note:80% is a made up, unproven statistic, but i was just driving at my point, and most of the time my statment is true]

If your familiar, is the platinum worth the extra 60 over the xtrememusic?
There the same exact card, the only difference is that the Platinum has a Drive bay and a remote.

Anyone have any experience with the Zalman gaming headphones. I'm just looking for ones for gaming because I need surround sound but I don't want all the speakers. What are the advantages of digital and analog sound? Music I'm fine with using my 2.1 stuff. Any other recommendations?
