Sound card upgrade ?

Will upgrading my sound car give me better/clearer sounds or what exactly does upgrading the sound card do?

What are some good ones to get?

if you upgrade from a cheaper soundcard to a X-fi then yes you will get better/clearer sounds. i would reccomend getting any one of the X-fi series or the audigy or live series. any one of those will give you better sound.
 
Also if you plan on getting a 5.1 or a 7.1 speaker system. A nice sound card will make the speakers sound much better and make gaming sound much nicer.

yeah im looking to upgrade my sound card, but that one up more is 100 bucks do u have to get one that expensive?¿

definately, today I upgraded from Realtek AC'97 to Creative Blaster Audigy (24bit) fantastic sound, no noise at all
 
And supposedly you will get a small boost in performance since the sound card takes care of the sounds instead of the CPU/integrated chip.
