how would i get this to work? is it possible?

Essence ST/STX? The ST can have the 5.1/7.1 daughterboard, you'd need RCA to 3.5mm adapters but it would work. If you have the STX, you're out of luck unfortunately.

im returning the stx as it was a bad card, or it just wasnt compatiable for some reason,

i want a sound card that has all the 3 ports needed for my speakers with a headphone port and amp.

You probably didn't have the molex all the way in, I did that the first time. If you want surround, you'll need the ST plus this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=211&products_id=17483 plus adapters for the bigger plugs (standard 3.5mm > 6.3mm adapters x 3)

X-Fi Titanium would fit the bill, but it has no amping.

can u give me a link for the right X-Fi Titanium model?

I'm getting a new sound card

Fatal1ty gear is usually good but not in the case of sound cards. I was talking about the stock standard X-Fi Titanium:

well i have a EVGA GTX 670, would that support it?

No. Your video card can't.
Not all video card support Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD, but I know good way.

EDIT: Sorry my mistake. Your video card might support Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD. Here is how you know your video card support it.
First, go to speaker in tray icon right click, select playback. You should seem TV picture icon then select it and click properties. Go to supported formats tab. You should see list of support either DTS or/and Dolby.
