Sound card removed

So today I was unfortunatly forced to remove my sound card to make room for an expansion slot fan (temps were way too high) and now I can't get my audio to work. In the Sound thing in the control panel, the option to choose a playback device is greyed out.

Anyone know how to get my onboard audio working again?

Did you disable on-board audio in the BIOS? Check that out and make sure you didn't do that.

Got it fixed.

The fan is a expansion slot fan, like this:

So yes, it needs to be there. I mainly got it for my GPU, which constantly overheat(ed).

One more question though (if you want to move this mods, go ahead)
The part of the GPU that slides into the hole (The part with the vga/dvi connections) takes up two slots even though it is only a single slot cooler.

If I removed the extra part, I could have both the fan, the GPU, and the sound card.

How could I cut it off? I have some tin snips-would that be alright? Ask for pics if you need clarification.
