I recently deleted many programs that i didnt really used and I downloaded windows blinds and sysmetrix. Between deleting and downloading new programs my sound card has failed to work, i dont know where the problem lies. When I try to play music I get the following error message: "The Sound Card is already used by another application." Can anyone help?? :(

FYI-running on Microsoft xp home edition.

First you want a Welcome to the Computer forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and a reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

And then even some practical advise on cleaning up the system registry since uninstallers love to leave a load of things behind!

RegCleaner is a good freeware for finding the loose "orphan" entries left in the system registry still trying to load programs that are no longer there. The main window is a good place to start since any registry keys seen there from anything you know was already removed can be checked off and simply removed when clicking the remove button at the bottom right next to the exit button.

For the automatic registry cleaner go to the "tools" option seen on the explorer bar and choose the registry cleanup item from that menu. On the dropdown menu on the right that opens there choose the "do them all" option at the bottom and then sit back and watch. It runs in Vista as well as back to WIN 95. Just before the actual run of the cleaner open the task manager to see if you spot any processes there and end those to free the registry values left behind. Then look in the device manager to see if there are any yellow marks next to the item seen under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". You may have to refresh or reinstall the drivers again after the cleaning is done.
