on a Dell XPS the Service ID for it is H83X771
This computer does not have an onboard sound device, it in one of the pci Ports

My Problem is that my sound card does play sound but it extremely faint, I have checked all volume settings and device default setting. I have replaces the sound card and it has the same effect on a completely new one. Otherwise the computer runs fine with no problems whatsoever. Any ideas?

Have you tested another set of speakers with it? And (don't hit me) have you confirmed you're using the correct jack... I've plugged into the wrong one before and you can sometimes hear faint feedback from the card.

Another idea would be trying something like Linux. You could boot to a LiveCD and see if sound works there. Typically the soundcard installs automatically and it'd be a good test to eliminate hardware issues.

check it with another set of speakers as suggested, and definitely use a different cable. if problem still exists, you could have a faulty card. creative isn't exactly the best quality stuff around so i wouldn't be surprised.
