sound card help please!

ok so the first 2 or 3 times i tried to play a CD in my computer it worked grand. but now my computers telling me that i dont have a sound card, even though i must have. and its saying stuff about the sound device. any ideas on how to fix this?? :confused:
 
do you have onboard sound or a sound card? have you tried reinstalling the drivers for whatever you have? have you tried going into your sounds and audio devices settings in the control panel and making sure all the volume controls are set properly? did you recently reinstall windows or something?
 
so it just randomly quit working? thats odd...have you made sure the card is seated in the slot properly? maybe take it out and put it back in, your sound card might possibly be dead too...
 
I would...

Check the device manager to make sure the drivers are properly installed, also make sure you plugged the speakers into the proper plug. Double check you volume levels also. If it does not help the card may be bad.

yep agree with that
 
I know my sound card didnt work, then i switched PCI slots and it worked (Although that was because it was interfering with the old sound card drivers). So try switching the ports.
