sound card and choppy pc?

hey guys. quick question. would not having a sound card while blasting the music on loud slow down a pc?

Nope, integrated sound cards are perfectly fine for that. If you're playing a high quality sound game (like battlefield 2) you might see a loss of a few frames without a sound card.

one more thing.... what does a sound card do? better quality sound and more plug adaptors?

A good soundcard will produce higher sound quality than onboard sound. They also offload the sound processing from the CPU to it's own processor.
