Hello to all, my name is Daniel and for a long time now ive been undecided as to which major i should take on in the computer field. Before i start i appologize if this post is in the wrong section btw I Love computers all around inside and out, love all the apsects of a main board and the unique features it has to keep a pc top notch ofcoure with the credit of other hard working hardware parts as well btw. When i was younger i was always the one whom was called over to fix the neighbors pc, due to crashes, viruses, upgrades etc. i learned about these thing all on my own and experimented alot with pc's i fried a couple on the way, and also built some pretty bad ass ones as well. I opened up ever electronic device i got iphones,ipods,xboxs,ps2s,ps3s,laptops etc i just love to play with them and see how they function. I plan on attending college this year and would like some ideas if there are any as to which field would i best fit in. I Dont care about the money for i have Love for pcs that no Money can Pay.. But then again Money is always good, especially if you choose to buy new upgrades.:D

Please if anyone knows be sure to advice i plan on going to a 4year Univ.:)

Well, first off, nobody should TELL you to do a certain major :) It is your life after all. However, it seems you should look into Computer Science, seeing as you love computer so much.

Welcome to the forum Lazeyd!

I'll second Elimin8or's suggestion. It does sound like Computer Science is the place for you to start. If you are inclined more towards the components, I would also recommend you focus more on the electronics end of things. If you enjoy software more, lean a little more towards programming. Keep in mind that you can always change majors/careers later down the line. You are not stuck in one or the other.

It sounds like you have the right idea. Money isn't everything. Pick the career that you will enjoy doing. You will get much more satisfaction out of life if you are working in a lower-paying job that doesn't feel like work (i.e. you get to do what you like) compared to a higher-paying job that you are constantly unhappy/over-stressed with.

Oh, and for University recommendations, let us know where in the world you live. This is an international forum, and I am sure the folks around here can give you great recommendations from around the world.

My suggestion is don't choose Computer Science if you do not have interest in it , because it is hell for you, if you really love it , it is heaven for you .

All i can say is, just choose your major by yourself or ask your parents to help you with that. Nobody should help you decide what to major in because nobody knows you really well to help you with that and nobody knows what you like and what you dislike in order to pick the right major for you.

wow thank you guys so much for the help. I live in maryland and hope to be attending UMC or VT, Or even George Washington. Umm i pretty much was confused as to which field was best for me. I knew i would major in computer science but didnt know whether which role i should take afterwards, like computer engineering, system analyst, hardware engineer.. like i dont really know what would fit me best but umm thank everyone for the welcome..
