Some help, please?

Well, I've got this problem with my onboard sound card.
I've just reinstalled xp, and installed all drivers etc.
But when I start to play something in VLC or Media Player, I get no sound.
Tried to uninstall and install the drivers some times now, tried different versions of the drivers too. Nothing seems to work.
The last thing I tried was to use the driver update service on MSI's homepage.
Yeah, my mainboard is a MSI K8N Neo4.

I need help, thanks in advanced! :)

Did you disable your onboard sound. It sounds like your onboard is still enabled and set as default in programs and you have your speakers plugged into the sound card. Either disable your onboard sound in the bios or go into your Control Panel- Sounds and Audio Devices under the Audio tab and set the card as default.

Ok one thought click start> all programs and then click on media player
click on libarary click on > more options, then click on the "files types" tab
ensure what you want to play is ticked

I'm using my onboard sound card , the problem is to get the onboard to work...
It's strange, I've never had this problem before, and I've reinstalled my computer many times before... =/
I'll guess I just got to buy a sound card, I've tried to get it to work the entire day, well well:)
Thanks for all the replies though!
And if you got some more ideas I'm all ears! :)
