slow restart or shutdown

hi, can someone tell me how to find out what is causing very slow restart time of my laptop. i have win xp sp3. I would like to know what aplication or something else is causing that.

Defrag. Start menu>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools or Maintenance>Disk Defragmenter. Defrag.

defragmentation didn't repare anything.after defragmentation, which was ok i start another analyze of the same volume and it say's you should defragm....?

Have you run virus scans such as malware bytes recently could be an infected file causing slow startup times.

Defrag several times. And how long does it take for it to start up? And what are your specs?

problem is restart and shotdown.not start up.well i have two other comp and the same programs on them and they take 5 sec to shotdown and no 2 minutes.ill try more defragment.

Two minutes? Ha, that's normal for my laptop, and its installation of XP is barely a week old.
Now that I remember, when I had XP on my desktop, it did take a while too. Have you used any tweakers? I had a tweak set so that the page file would get deleted on shutdown, took a long time to shutdown until I turned oof the tweak.
