When I am using Skype, I have an irritating display that pops up every time the camera switches on.
It is a rectangular display with Emicons on etc. Titled “HP MediaSmart Webcam” I must close it every time. I cannot find a way to disable this. Has anyone any ideas.
I have a HP laptop with Windows 7

yea mine does the same thing, i just use it haha, all of a sudden lines will appear and the person who is watching me is like WHATS HAPPENING!!! lol, funny as

have you tried removing it from the startup folder? if its not in there you might just want to install it if you dont use it

I am afraid to uninstall it, in case I delete the driver for my HP Webcam, also it is not in the start up folder

well you could try to find a copy of the driver for the cam online and try uninstalling it, then if it didn't work you could reinstall.

or you could try killing the hp webcam monitor through the task manager, if it isnt in the applications tab look for it in the processes tab, be careful which processes you kill though or your comp may crash!

I'm pretty sure it's just the spam-ware that HP installs on the computers for the webcam. Check the settings (if there are any) and see if you can find a way to turn it off. If there's not, then go ahead and uninstall it (if you can). All you should have to do to reinstall it if needed is go to the HP support site and find the program. You can probably even search CNET's Download.com for it.
