Skin smoothing in PhotoShop 7

I made a short movie with my friends over the weekend, and I was trying to make an official-looking movie poster with PS 7. Anyway, I got all of the graphical stuff done, wording, a few simple effects... but the poster has two of my friends standing in the middle, and I can't seem to get their skin to stop looking all grainy. I've tried combinations of blur and smudge tools etc. but I can't really make it look "professional". What can I do?

Sounds like your friends pictures are a lower resolution then the background you are using. The best thing to do is to take a better picture.

basically what I'm asking is how to make it look like a regular movie poster, you know, all smooth and such. I used a pretty good camera, Panasonic 6 megapixel.

Did you have to do any editing to the photo? My best suggestion would be to take the photo at the 6MP setting, with the fine not standard setting. And take the photo as close to the actual size that you will need as possible. Also, when saving or importing the photo, make sure that the programs don't save the image at a lower resolution.

Yes, since you have PS7, it is easily done on there. Do you mind posting the picture so we can see how it looks. It's not point trying to understand a bunch of details and explanations without the actual picture.

sorry, I would post the pic, but the problem is that the picture its not of myself, its my friends, and they don't want me to post it for some reason  .

try these options:
Noise removal tool
Blurr (create another layer and apply blurr to the top layer)
Softness or Soft Focus

Try this really simple process, I use it to soften or smooth skin sometime:
Make three layers of the original
one original on the bottom.
One original in the middle and one original on top.
Now make the top one dissapear.
Give a gaussian blur to the middle one.
Make the top one appear again.
Use the eraser to erase the top and let the blur in

Duplicate the layer. Gaussian blur. Change opacity of blur layer to about 30-40%. Use eraser to remove everything else including blurred eyes, nose, mouth, etc.

computerhakk, thats a great suggestion, it worked fine. Thanks for everyone else who posted as well, I appreciate it :)
