Silly question

Hi silly question from someone who knows nothing about photos.
When i take a photo and put on my computer and i want to enlarge it,it goes blurry or you can see all the dots which i think are the pixels.
How can i enlarge the photos without that happening, cheers.

there are limitations on what you can do with a photo. it isn't quite like the movies where you just yell out "enhance" and something happens :P i am not sure if there are any programs out there that do that sort of thing (yet?). try using a different camera that has a better resolution.

I'm using a Canon Powershot but i think i should try to explaine more of what i'm trying to do if you have the patience as i'm a bit slow in expressing
myself.I have had a photoshop for ages and what i like to do is take a picture
of say a rally car and a picture of say a dirt track from Google Images and combine them into a picture of my own.The trouble i'm having is that the pictures i get from Google are differnt sizes and thats where i'm coming unstuck.Sorry if this post is long winded, cheers.

your best bet would probably be to either get a camera with a good zoom or to make the dirt picture smaller so that it fits the car. other than those i don't think you have any other option unless someone knows of software that actually "enhances" images like in the movies... but i don't think there is :(

the pixels will show when you enlarge a photo. if you want a photo with a huge res, you'll have to buy a camera with a high megapixel count.

Perhaps I'm reading this wrong but it seems your Canon is capable depending how old it is but the photos you are getting off google are low res. When you blow up the low res google dirt track to insert the high res car, the dirt track becomes blocky.
If this is the case then your problem is googles low res photos.

You are spot on,any answer to my problem.:)

Now you are getting technical which i am not.I down load as i said from Google Images pictures of say dirt roads and from the same place pictures of say rally cars and i'm trying to make my own pictures of a scene of rally cars racing. But as was said when i want to increase there size it becomes blocky.
On Google Images it asks if you want larger photo and gives you the choice of lots of resolutions but when you pick a resolution it still turns out the same.:)

what size do you want to enlarge it at?

It doesn't really matter, there isn't any way to add quality to a picture once it has already been taken.

That's because Google images doesn't have any way to search for higher quality pictures. When you search for pictures of a certain megapixel count, a lot of the pictures it gives you are just smaller pictures that have been enlarged, which is exactly what you don't want. The only thing you would be able to do is to keep searching through the pictures to try and find one that suits your needs.

Thanks to you all for your comments.:)

Just found what i'm looking for thanks again.

If the photo is of poor quality or saved at a very low resolution, you are not going to make it better no matter what program you use. You MUST take your photos and save them at a high resolution if you want to enlarge them at a later date. You may enlarge the photos you are asking about but there will be a limit on how big you can make them without distortion or pixelation and if the resolution is low, it won't be very big.
Many people want to take hundreds of photos before they download them and to do that they set their camera up for low resolution, much better to download often and have beautiful photos than to save a few minutes and have a lot of throwaways.
