I have a netgear super g wireless router and I want to know if I could use this router to share a printers with those in my network or would I have to buy another router specialized for that? thanx in advance:)

youll be fine with that. just need to set up a network i believe which takes about 2 minutes with windows and possibly another option to share the printer. unfortunately i dont remember how i did it but ill look for you if need be

Make sure you have the computer on that hosts the network printer and with your secondary computer click on add printer. Threw the steps you can add a network printer. Really easy to do as long as you have already set-up your network.;)

Sounds like a plan

Well I think I have my network setup, how do I know if I do? I setup the router and have the passphrase and all that, I added my laptops I.P. address to the trust list. Is that setup? I'm clueless on how to configure the network to share the printer can someone guide me through that? also would I need to install the printer software in each comp? thanx for the help!:)

network printer or printer server is the easiest way to do it. if you share the printer the host must be online when you print. once you install the drivers for the host you just need to have the other computers access the printer when it is shared and it will ask you to install the drivers.

You need to go to "my computer" and then "My Network Places" and then "Set Up a Home Or Small Office Network".

Go through the setup process of this on each machine. If they are all XP, ignore the last request to create a CD/Disk.

Once that is done, you can share folders and printers between machines.

On the machine with the printer attached, click on the printer in "Printers and Faxes" in the "Control Panel". Right click and select "share this printer".

On the other machines, go to "printers and faxes", and select "add printer", and then "network printer". Follow the setup for this.

Bes bet is to get a networkable printer or a print server, you then dont need to leave a machine on to print.

I just finished doing that and on a laptop I hope to include in the network, "a network cable is unplugged" is what it says and i could ignore it and proceed with the network setup but it doesn't work. So is the network going to use the internet to share files etc? thanx a lot lectrician

Does this laptop connect to the internet currently?

If so, is it wireless? Possibly I have not read all the posts above!

If it does connect, and it reports that a connection is unplugged, this is probably your WIRED LAN connection, and you are using wireless.

Ignore this and continue - It should work.

You can disable any connections you are not using. Go to "My Computer", "My Network Places", "View Network Connections" and then right click and select disable on any you dont use. You can right click to re-enable. You should see your wireless connection and your wired connection.
