Sharing files

Hello, I want to know if there is a more secure way to share files on my LAN. I'm going to get DSL in a few months and I don't think "sharing folders" is going to be safe anymore. I'm using Windows 2000 on my main computer and 95 on the second.

why sharing files is not safe ?
just make them read only to users
and in XP i set a password on the guest account which makes my computer not accessible for anyone who hasn't this password !
i have DSL and I share files with no worries

You could always make the folder not visable to viewers of shared folders, make it be required that you map to it.

I do know about the folder "read only" option, I'm just conserned how safe it is. I could be just paranoid.

My understanding is that the DSL modem has to connect directly to my network switch box, becoming apart of my LAN. My main consern is about my second computer, since Windows 95 does not have advanced networking protection like Windows 2000. I do have a firewall on my main computer but for CPU reasons I can't put one on my second.
