hi can any help got 3 comp on network 2 of them are xp with printers, the 3rd comp is windows 2000 without a printer , cannot share files or share printer , any advice please

I just asked a similar question myself a few days ago, and I got replies.

What I did after reading the reply was that I clicked Start-Settings-Printers. Then right-click the active printer and choose Properties. Now click the "Sharing" tab and then "Share this printer".

When it's shared you got to do a few things on the computer which is supposed to reach the printer through the network.

Do this:

Start-Settings-Printers
Then choose "Add new network printer" and "Network printer".
The printer's name is \\<the other computer's name>\<printer's name>

Thanks a lot to a fellow named Super_Nova for learning me this. I'm going to try it myself very soon.

Oh, I was about to comment on it while writing the reply, but I forgot.

I think it is possible to update your client PC with the needed drivers. If not, I might have misunderstood the explanation.

I did not get the printer to work through the network. However, I not a shocker probably, as I'm speaking of a wireless network. When I think about it, it's most about the sharing of INTERNET connection.

I mix up, because I used to have a regular cable network between a server PC and a client PC around 5-6 years ago. I automatically think that things are the same, now we have a wireless network, so I have to focus on what I'm able to do using the wireless network.

Neither did I see the process of installing the wireless network.

Anyway, tell me about your further results.

i think xp and windows 200 ain't compatable exhaused of trying all different ways to share

You need to (on the XP machine) go to the "My Network Places:. Click on "Set up a home or small office network" wizard. Follow the steps...

When you are done with that machine go to the 2000 machine, put it the XP CD and in the autoplay menu select "Peform Additional Tasks", click on "set up a home or small office network"... follow the steps...

Use the same name when you are asked for the workgroup name. Make sure you select yes if asked to turn on printer and file sharing. This will allow each computer to share the printers and certain folders...

thanks SFR but i do not have xp disc to do what you said anyother way of sharing printer

At the end of the "set up a home or small office network" it asks you if you need to install the setup on another computer.... once you select yes you are given the options to put the setup on a floppy or use the windows cd... Do you have a floppy drive?
