Sharing a folder

I have a three computer home network--all XP-- wired -- with a Netgear RP614 ver 3 router- but I don't think that has anything to do with my problem.

I want to share everything with everything on all computers. Recently I find I can't get to the one user's files on on Computer 1. When I check the sharing status on Drive C of Computer 1 everything is fine (and I can reach it on Computer 2). Same thing for Documents and Settings. Also for one of the user profiles under Documents and Settings-- but not the other one. When I check the sharing status for it the "Share this folder on the Network" line is shaded out- though there is actually a check in the box. When I try it from No. 2 I get a "not authorized" message. The bottom says the Windows firewall setting lets the folder be shared. Also my McAfee Firewall is set to allow the ohter network computers access.

I'm sorry if this is obvious. I'm grateful for any help. Rick

Thanks. That's a clue. I have McAffee but maybe it's the same. The funny thing is I have it on both computers but Computer 2 can access computer one but not vice versa.:(

do not worry about norton anti virus. I think he ment norton firewall

were you ever able to share folders or did this just start ?

open windows explorer
go to tools, then folder optoions, then view, then scroll all the way down, turn off simple file sharing
are these xp home or prof ? i am not sure if you can turn off simple file sharing in home ver.

make sure that all the pc's are in the same work group
share a folder on each pc
are all the pc's able to hit the internet ?
turn off all firewalls on all the pc's
that should do it

Thanks.

I have XP Home

I have the firewall set at a "trusting" level.

But more critically I can share some files but not others. And I am unable to turn on (check the box) for filesharing in the relevant files because the check box is greyed out-- though there is a check mark in it. I would have thought if the problem were in the things you listed I couldn't share at all.
