Hi everyone ,

I have three computers on which we are running scientific tests(mechanical engineering)Those 3 computers are conected to internet and I would like to be abble to create some common storage where all the results could be stored , and that could be accessed through any of those computers again for further testing  .
I have a couple of ideas but I do not think they are optimal as using ftp to access a 4th computer ...

I you guys have any hint it would be welcome ...

thanks

i know it would be an idea but i would like more storage than this, and a storage that would also be local like 4th computer in the same room or one of the computer I m already using...

Are you able to buy an external HD with, say, 200GB, and connect the computers to a network and have them all connected to the HD. I don't know a whole lot on networking; someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Yeh thechef thats correct sorry klaks333 i misunderstood i thought you wanted something online.

erm buy a big hard drive and either use the fastest computer as the server or another computer seperate. create a network, u will need cables and a hub.

Thanks guys ,
I think I will create a network between the machines I have ..
Last thing , do you guys know anygood links for creating networks , it might help me since I ve never done it ..

Although this would be a good idea, it depends on your budget, buying network cards, hubs, routers, cables, external hard drive would all add up.

If you have high-speed internet and are dealing with files that arnt that large, you could run a program such as GoToMyPC or AccessMyPC and transfer the files from one computer to another over the internet. If you are dealing with large files, you could but a router for about $20-$50 and use a wired network to connect them, and store the files on a computer with the largest hardrive(or make a partition specifically for that purpose).

P.S. Newegg.com has great deals on routers and cables, i bought a 100ft crossover cable for $8. and i saw a 4-port router for around $25.
