Shared area on the internet???

I would like to create a "shared area" on the internet somehow that allows me to access any of the files on there, from any PC in the world, as though I was on the LAN with it. I don’t want to have to download any of the files, I just want them to be there, ready to use without having to download 8GB .iso files every time! I'm pretty sure this is impossible, but there's a smidgen of hope inside me that feels that there's somebody out there who knows how to use the resources of the home machine to load said 8gb file, and to be able to access it fully functionally via the internet.

It's really not hard to make you're own little website. And with correct software you can make it password protected...(and I don't mean just FTP)

There are many server programes out there, appache is probably the most popular, but I've seen many others that are much more simple. As long as you have cable, it should really simplify things. You need to find you're IP address(not your LAN IP address...) and if you're using a router, you need to make sure port 80 is open on the IP address you plan to use(this time, on your lan) You can also use other ports, like I have a site on port 30... Some ISP's block 80 so you can't run a site...

Um, hope this is what you want...

Ah, just read it again and do you mean like a remote desktop? There is VNC which allows you to see you're desktop. It's a bit sluggish but you can move stuff around. This along with a decent server program makes for a nice setup if you want to remotely access and download stuff from a comp...
