Share files question

Hi,

If I want to transfer the My Pictures folder on one computer to another (both in the same workgroup) then would I just have to put the pictures into the Shared documents of the computer and then I can copy paste it onto the other computer?

Why bother puting it in shared docs? Just copy the pictures folder, and go to the desired network computers shared folder and paste them there...or just put them straight onto the hard drive if its shared. But your way also works...

You could just designate the folder "Shared". You don't have to put it in the shared document folder if you don't want to.

There is also a hidden administrative share in Windows 2000 or greater. It's simply accessed by typing in \\host name or IP address\C$ into Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer if you want and this will give you access to the entire C drive of that computer (replace host name or IP address with the target computer).

It will also ask you for admin credentials if they have not be satisfied beforehand. This C$ business can apply to any drive letter such as Z$ if you had a hard drive mapped as Z.

I didn't know you could do that :)

Anyway, by right clicking the files that you want other people to access on that computer, you should get sharing options. there is a check box in there that you can tick, so other computers on your work group can see and access them.
