Setting up router of College internet Connection

I've been having this problem for a bit. I talked to resnet and they told me i can use a router... no big deal... thats ok .I have a Linksys 2.4 GHZ 802.11b router with 4 port switch (enthernet wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router) and when i put the settings on auto in the settings for the router it dones not detect my connection and the setup cd cant find my connection either... is this the wrong router? can somebody help me?

Does the router make a connection? Or is it your computer not making a connection? Does Resnet not give specifics on how to set it up?
 
I did not get a specific from resnet... just that I can do it. When I plug the router into the wall and from my computer to the router I can log into the routers utility... but even after auto detect is on I cannot get on...
 
Does you school require a set ip? Or is it auto assigned? Does it require a login and password? Or auto? I apears auto config is not working...
 
I remember when i first plugged the computer in it asked for my email address and password just once and after that it never did that again.
 
try setting up the the router as a pppoe (point of presence of ethernet) and put in your email and pw as the login.
