This wireless thing is all new to me. When I set up my wireless router in which I have a pppoe (dsl) connection and have 1 desktop (wired Ethernet) and 1 laptop. Do I have to set up the security manually so no one else can use my connection or does the router set up the security automatically?

The default settings on most Wireless Routers does not have security enabled. You need to check the manual and set up WEP or preferably if you have it, WPA security on your router. Your connecting computer then needs the key you've chosen for security so that it can connect - also, when you access your router (usually by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of explorer, the user name and password will be set to the default - advise you change that to something you'll remember aswell.

Whats the diff between WEP and WPA?

type 192.168.1.1 into you internet address bar type admin into the password and click return then go to wirless and click wireless security choose what form of security you want and right down the key it gives you.
go to your wireless computer right click the connection in the task bar and connect with windows connection when the router is found click connect and type the key in twice then connect and thats it job done.
