Setting up a wireless network.

Okay so I've bought a Belkin F5D7633 ADSL modem/router and a Belkin F5D7051 USB wireless adapter.

The router is setup via ethernet cable which plugs into the back of my PC and the USB adapter is plugged into the back of my brother's PC.

So far I have the internet working perfectly, forwarded ports etc so Bit-Torrent is working well.

Now I want to try and setup a network between the two computers so we can share files and perhaps later setup a printer to share as well. My PC has Windows XP with SP2 and my brothers simply has Windows XP.

How should I go about doing this?

Right lcik my computer, select properties. Make sure both pc's ar ein the same workgroup.

Pick a file or HD to share, right click it and share via the "sharing and security" menu..

Go into my network places and selec entire workgroup to see all computers in the same workgroup.

Or type //localip or //computer-name in IE to connect to the shared folders.

Got it to work. I just had to run the wizard on both computers and follow your instructions, now it's fine :). Thanks for the help!

However what sort of speed should I be expecting? The USB adapter is in a USB 1.0 or 1.1 port (not sure, but it's definately not 2.0) and it's going to take about 3 hours to send 700mb. Is that right? I was expecting it to be sluggish but not as slow as that!

Thanks again for the help so far.

wow 3 hrs for a 700mb file... should be about 3 min... if that. I dont know what speeds the usb adaptors run for a network setup... but that seems a little crazy.

Is the file being used some where else?
