Setting iPod to manual sync

My computer guy wiped out my teen's laptop and unfortunately her iTunes were not backed up. We need to put her music back on the laptop. Someone here suggested we put her iPod on manual. How do we do this please? If she syncs her iPod now she will lose all her non iTunes music.

Thanks

Manual would only allow you to add or delete single songs from your iPod without syncing the entire playlist. This would not allow you to transfer songs from your iPod to your computer, as Apple has taken measures to prevent this (to prevent music piracy). What you need is a 3rd party program that can rip the songs from the iPod.

This is a very popular one, which I have used:

However it does cost $20. You can download the trial, which I believe only takes off the first 200 songs from your iPod.

thanks..anything I need to know before we do this?? I was told to get this one but warned if I made ONE mistake I would lose EVERYTHING..thanks

The program is pretty straight forward and easy to use. The only way you could lose the music on the iPod is accidentally syncing through iTunes... the other program won't delete anything on the iPod.
