server question

im new to servers and stuff like that so i have a couple of questions. my friend wanted to rent a game server for counter strike source and i wanted to know if i could use a spare pc i have for a server computer and use it to play the game server. the computer isnt terrible but its not as good as my computer. what would i need to do this and would i have to pay anything to anyone else? also... is there anyway i can like rent out servers to people from the same server computer?
 
i think its possible.. i tried once.. having a dedicated server on my computer basement.. but since i didnt have much RAMs and the CPU is quite supporting.. max i could handle is 4 players hehe..

heres the spec i used:

Intel Celeron 2.3
512MB RAM
80GB
DSL connection

i was jus wondering the same, what makes those rented servers better hmm
 
well the rented servers have like fx 60s and stuff. if your running a business and say you get payed 30 bucks a month from 7 people that have rented servers from you then thats what they probally use to make the computers good. the computer is about a step under then one i have in my sig.
