Server Build Help

Hi chaps, ok ill be honest im in way over myhead!! Although i do have a basic understanding i know its not enough!!

I have a problem, i have purchased some software i can not install on my computer unless its is installed on a server, unfortunatley i need this specific software and its not availiable as a single user package. So my question is this..... I heard and read that i could build my own server to run this package and any other files such as music etc, what i would like to know is, how do i go about it, do i need any specific addition software, or is there a way of configuring an old tower unit to do the job??

Please any help you can provide would save my sanitiy i feel like ive been doing circles for a month!!!
 
I am assuming you need it for a windows, linux or osx server platform? If Linux you are in luck it may just require you to install one program or two to get that service running, if Windows or OSX you may have to pay for software.

If I may ask what software are you trying to run?
 
Im trying to install microsoft dynamics crm 4.0 on site version, i think its going to be a windows install ill need to put together wouldnt it? Thanks for your reply
 
:confused:Just to be a pain, has anyone got a site i could check out for help/instructions or anything that may be useful too me to build this server??
