Seperate HD

Here's the deal, I have put a second HD in my computer, which now shows up as 'Local Disk F:'. I was just wondering if I install my server onto the second HD, if my system on 'Local Disk C:' would alot more safe than it was? And also, if there are any suggestions on keeping your network secure ect...

If you install your server on the second HD? I'm not totally following you there... And when you say more safe, what are you trying to be safe from? Viruses? Loosing data? Etc...

Assuming you just meant having two drives in the computer and putting certain info on one of them...I odn't know if that's technically safer or not. Most viruses could probably go across your drives. Now as for loosing data, that's hard to say. I mean what if all your important information is on the 2nd drive and it fails? Harddrives are the slowest and probably more unreliable parts of the whole computer...I personally don't like keeping loads of into one mine...

Yes I just put a HD in my computer, no OS, and I installed php and apache to that drive, like as if it was an external or something. I was asking if it would be safer from anyone hacking my site, to get to my other files on the other Hard Drive.

I can't think of any way it would be safer in that respect. I mean you could block all your files from any other usernames on your computer, but if someone goes so far as to hack into your machine, I don't think getting around that would be that much harder... So, I don't see it being any more safe than a single drive.

Listen to TOO, he knows what he's talking about, and putting it into easy solutions: password protect your folders or get an external harddrive

Right now, it's more of an organizer than anything, I am building a site for my grandmothers salon, and one for myself, organize music and what not.... but here is the link:

The "music" link, that organizes my music, really only looks good in Fire Fox...

well for one, you might want to try to get a domain... cause its not a great thing to give out your IP address

set up your external harddrive to be booted from with XP, then disconnect your internal one and only connect it to back crap up on, or vice versa
