Separating application audio output between various speakers/headsets

I have tried everything I can think to separate the sound that my laptop outputs from my headset so that I only hear one thing through them rather than many things.

I've got it where everything I want plays or doesn't play through my headset however, I am still stuck on how to change the audio output of Itunes so that it plays through my laptop speakers.

Is there a way I can change it or (this is what I've also read upon) do I have to have two sound cards?

There is a graphic equalizer for your audio application or in Control Panel / Sounds. You use that to turn off unwanted inputs.

To play out of your speakers, have you tried unplugging the headphones? There's also a setting for speaker selection in the dialogs mentioned above. Plugging the headphones in and out should switch the speakers.

That still hasn't answered my question. I want to gain specific sounds through my headset at the same time as playing other sounds through my speakers at the same time.

You will need a card with two outputs and the capability to run two audio devices simaltaneously, or two cards that can do the same. The only area I can think you may find this is in pro audio software where you may have a software mixing desk and be able to direct inputs to specific outputs. I can't help any more than that.

I've run two sound cards before but was using one for Midi only.
