SCSI Scanner won't work

I am trying to help a friend hook up a used Nikon LS 2000.
I know nothing about SCSI.
The computer (XP) recognizes that a LS 2000 has been hooked up to the computer. Logic tells me if the computer recognizes that an LS 2000 is connected the SCSI card must be working. Am I wrong?
XP wants to install the software but can't find any.
I downloaded Nikon Scan 3.1.2.
When I run Nikon Scan it says there is no active device connected.
There is a slide in the scanner, but the scanner makes no noise or any indication that it is working.
Yes it is turned on.
The SCSI card is an Adaptec 2903b, supposedly XP has the driver for it.
I downloaded the ASPI Driver package for Windows from Adaptec, http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/scsi_soft/ASPI/ASPI-4.70/
I am not certain it installed.
Any help would be appreciated.

yes your right that if the computer finds it than the SCSI card is working. and SCSI is just an old port very typical of scanners. i would just keep checking for drivers and updates. thats about the best i can say. sorry
