I have a motorcycle for sell posted in local papers. One newspaper has it online. Today I receive a g-mail on my phone, said a g-mail was for someone unable to speak to use the phone. Wanted me to send picture and price by e-mail. Sent picture and price. Was a scam, he accepted the price, wants to send me a cashiers check for the price and enough extra so I can cash it and send the extra to his shipper to pay for the cycle to be picked up and shipped. What I want to know is there someway I can take the e-mail address and find where it came from.
Thank You;

No, but this happened to us and we lost 3K :(. What you can do is notify the customer service of whatever emial service he is using and then you can send the emails to the FBI.

What email service are you using? If you can view the header info, you can send that on to the FBI who can then get the scammers ip address from the header info.

Chris tucker- Same time man! I don't know you! same time!

I have put that rule into play ever since i was a kid lol, hasnt failed me yet.

Some guy had a house for rent on craigslist. Gave my girlfriend a long story about how he was in africa and his wife was around the texas area having some important leg surgery. He asked if she could wire him the first and last months rent, which was like $1600, to a western union in africa. She almost did it but lucky i read the email before she did. I almost blew snot out my nose from laughing so hard at his story. I took over the situation after that and told him i wasnt sending him anything until he sent the keys to me or a neighbor who could take me inside the house ( with a police escort if he didnt trust me ). He then went on to say that it cost $400 to send a key from africa to america. I then again proceed to die of laughter. I went to the house and informed the actual real estate agent of what was going on. She then called the police, yada yada yada, you get the rest...

Where i grew up people tried to pull scams all the time if they werent bold enough to just rob you ( knife/gun ) or jump you and then pocket check you. Even kids would walk around with fund raiser projects for ' katrina ' or the like and pocket the money right after. I had friends that did it. Your not going to play me with some west african story, nice try though...

yeah, don't get your hopes up though, the fbi or ftc can't do anything about it because they can't prosecute somebody who hasn't committed a crime yet. but when they do it's usually from out of the country where they don't have jurisdiction. just ignore these emails if you know they are scams.

you remember those debates about policing the internet? and having big brother's hand in everything internet related? well most of us voted against that, allowing this kind of stuff will continue to happen.
