Sandybridge cpu & motherboards anyone else suprised by price

Yeah the Sandy bridge Cpus & Mobos are priced nicely i think, especially the i5s and from what i heat they overclock really well.

Although on some forums, i see people with skt 1156 i5s & i7s selling their setups to get a sandy bridge setup and i dont see the point really,Its not a huge upgrade over current 1156,1136 processors.

Would make an awesome upgrade for lga 775 users though.

Or for AM3. If you were set on rebuilding now rather than waiting to see what bulldozer offers, an upgrade from AM3 to 1155 would be substantial to say the least

yes but seems as if we now know why they are cheaper than expected, check out the SANDYBRIDGE HAS DRM thread !

Just curious, whats the advantage of Sandy Bridge over the old i7's?

Haven't been in the scene for a long while so I'm clueless :D Is it just a die-shrink? Are we down to 28nm yet

i think the only advantage is they are meant to be faster and more efficent, and the other main issue is they have good built in graphics power that is better than most budget graphics cards.

I feel as though the only part of this that is actually true is the efficient part. Not sure though. Anyone else?

well if you watch the intel official sandybridge launch video, they compare side by side on big screen a cheap entry level gpu, and sandybridge built in graphics, and you would have to be blind to say the gpu looks better

The price seems about right. Arent these just the upper low/mid range parts.
These things dont have much cache. The i5 only has a total of 7mb of L2 and L3. The i7 only has 9mb. of L2 and L3 total.

The AMD Bulldozer 4 module will have 16mb. of L2 and L3 total.
