S/PDIF and coaxial cables - Assist

I have a headphone output on the side of my laptop (surprise!), but it also says SPDIF next to the output. Can I stuff a coaxial cable in there and then connect it to a surround sound system?

With the right cable (digital audio 75 ohm) and connectors (RCA) and an SPDIF input at the sound system. Digital audio can also be optical.
