i'm trying to establish a VPN connection between two D-Link routers. one i want to set as the server. and the other i would like to configure as the client, whish will connect to the other router and connect two separate networks as one.

can this be done with two routers. i mean, one being configured as the server for sure, but one as the clinet is the problem.

thanks

do they have static IPs? Probably not is what I am guessing....

It is possible, but there may be other solutions which are better to look at. What exactly are you trying to accomplish here?

yes, both routers have static ip addresses and are both indivigually connected to the internet by dedicated ADSL modems with static ip's.

what i'm trying to accomplish at this stage is to manage to ping a client pc that is located on the romte network. (other router)

i'm guessing trough vpn at this stage.

well if both routers support VPN all you got to do is plug in the settings and the IPs.

Let me know what routers you decide to go with because I googled a bit and didn't find anything that looked like a good decision, but I didn't look all that hard either.

well at the moment i'm only testing with two D-Link ( DI-804HV ) routers. i have two separate adsl modems with static ip's that are connected in my server room. the routers as said before are connected to those modems. i've entered the ip, gateways, vpn settings...bla bla bla...but no luck sofare.

Well I am running 2x WRT54GLs from Linksys with third party firmware called DD-WRT which does in fact have built in VPN support. DD-WRT is a Linux based kernel firmware that is very similar to what Cisco uses on their routers.

www.dd-wrt.com

If you do try this out, I recommend you only try it out on the WRT54GLs, which can still be bought off of newegg.com

umm ic...i'll keep that in mind. but for the time being, i'm not giving up yet. i'm sure there's a solution outhere somewhere. probably i'm making a bumb mistake somewhere and i'm to damb tired to see it at the moment. i'll have to continue tomorrow.

thanks again Tlarkin!
