Router schedule

I have a Netgear wireless modem/router DG834G.

I have a SCHEDULE set up to BLOCK ALL SERVICES for the night-time period to prevent internet access. MSN messenger still works at night though, even though the www is unavailable.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do to block the IM's also.

Thanks

umm, see if under your router you can block all web traffic, because right now your only blocking web surfing at night. I'm not sure what the setting would look like because all routers are different.

In the drop-down menu of services to block I have selected the first one - ALL. There are other options such as HTTP etc but I would have thought that 'all' stops all internet traffic. It does seem a bit odd.
When I tested the schedule on another PC (a lesser version of MSN messenger) it WAS blocked.
Might it be that if the IM application is started before the schedule comes into effect it will be allowed to continue?

Thanks

Possibly, have you tested this theory of yours out yet? However, I don't know how netgear goes about blocking the internet access, but msn messenger uses many different ports to get online. My guess is that it only blocks port 80 which is usually how you get online and not anything else.

I am not familar with the netgear family routers, I don't use them.

Do you have a QoS section in your router's CP?

I've experimented a fair bit and realised that the 'adjust for daylight saving' option is not automatic, it has to be manually selected and deselected as the clocks change. This might account for the confusion as it is soon after the cut-off time that I would notice it.
When the router blocks services though, it is effectively blocking all services, including messenger apps.
