router question

well i have had my router working for about 1.5 years, and wanted to replace it with a wireless router. so i unpluged the current d-link wired router to plug in the wireless netgear one. once pluged in neither would work again. i know my modem is working cause i'm useing it right now. could some one suggest something to help:confused: thanks
 
last time i swapped my router it just took a long time for it to connect again. i kept unplugging it and messing with settings trying to figure out why it wasnt workin then i just got frustrated and left it and in like an hour or so i came back and it was workin fine.....its been workin fine since then
