router or switch?

I've just bought an ethernet switch with the intention of having a sattelite broadband modem and a few computers connected... But i just had a sudden thought: will this work?? or should i have bought a broadband router??

i hope i'm going to be alright...

If its a DSL/PPoE type of connection a switch should be sufficient otherwise you'll need a router
 
Consumer routers automatically connect and share a network connectection where as hubs and switches just divide up signals.

Unless you have some way to share the net, you usally need a router. Some some DSL modems have their own router features built in... I don't recall the name, but I know the white one Bell South has been sending out recently does...
