router->computer->computer?

i have two lan ports on my upstairs computer and im wondering if i can extend a cable from the extra lan port to the lan port of a new computer that i plan on getting, getting internet on both of them.
simply, can i get an internet connection on both computers with a router->computer->computer type connection?

yes, you'll have to enable the first computer to put it through....but why not just have two cords, each computer going to the router?

because i would need to route that cable through the walls again --> trust me, not gonna work out. anyways, how do i enable the first comp to "put it through?"
