Router and Hub question

Hey guys.
My computer is downstairs, running off a Router from upstairs, wired.

If i want to have a lan downstairs, this is a problem. So what i was wondering.
Would buying a hub and plugging the Network cable into it and then cross-over cables into the computers to be connected downstairs work just as good as a Router?

This would technically still work as a lan right? just that my upstairs computer would be connected with lan also?

If not whats a good way to do this so i can lan downstairs easily.
my modem and router are both upstairs. single network cable running downstairs.

Thanks

Why would you need cross over cables? YOu have the right idea, you just extend the network using a hub/switch. However, you only need crossover for device to device(like devices, but most auto-switch anymore) So crossover from your router to the switch, the straight though for the computers.

So..run the main cable down into the back of the hub.
But how would i connect the other computers to the hub?
im assuming i just use regular cat5 cables to connect the computers to the hub?
